I am excited about a few things:

  • we have had one or 2 students complete B90X with me and we are starting it again
  • I am going to start journaling as I spend time reading through Proverbs for my personal study time
  • things are going really well both physically and ministry wise right now

I started this new series after completing my goal of losing 100lbs.  So why a new series and not just continuing the journey to 100?  Since I have completed my goal I thought it was time for something new and something that focuses on the spiritual and not just the physical…bot or hugely important and spiritual health is way more important than physical health.  Don’t get me wrong physical health is very important but spiritual health trumps it.  It would be easy to think I’m all about fun and games and physical accomplishments but I’m really not.  While I like to have fun and love accomplishing things physically I enjoy a good theological conversation far more.  I always have hands down.  So I’m hoping to bring that to the mix this time around as well.

I worked out hard this week but I don’t think I ate enough and so it’s reflected in my weigh-in this week.  Overall though things are going really well working out.  I crave going to the gym now.  I used to look forward to going to the gym and it’s now one of my favorite things to do again – which I am excited about!

Stats…

Last update: 290
This week: 286

4 pounds is 4 pounds and I’m proud of it.  Down one more notch on the belt again.  It has definitely been a confidence booster.  I’m looking forward to summer – I’m hoping to be lighter than I was as a sophomore in college.  I’m glad to be able to be a better steward of the temple God has given me – spiritually and physically.

senior pictures

I am fascinated by what can happen in 15 years.  I was showing some people my senior pictures from high school.  Usually the first reaction I get is, “That can’t be you!!”  Tobe honest I didn’t look much like my senior picture by the time I was a sophmore in college.   My body has gone through several major changes over the course of my life.  I went from 5’3″ weighing 156 pounds my 8th grade year to 5’8″ weighing 130 pounds the start of my freshman year of high school.  By the time I graudated as a senior I was 5’11” and weighed 210.  At the end of my sophmore year of college I had stopped growing but weigh 235 becuase of all of the weightlifting I was doing.

I got into powerlifting a few years out of college and put on some muscle mass and got to 300 at the peack of my powerlifting.  Then I stoped when I got into the ministry and ate a LOT of fast food ballooning up to 400 pounds over the course of 7-8 years.  Now I’m in the fight of my life trying to get back to 275.  Right now I’m at 339.  So I feel pretty good about that.

I will never look like my senior picture again – which in my opinion is a good thing.

80I can’t tell you how excited I am to be back in the gym.  This week was really the completion of my first week working out in the gym and I am starting to have some casual conversations with some of the ‘regular’ guys that are in there when I am.  I am looking forward to eventually having faith discussions in betweens sets with them.  I am praying God opens those doors up.

This week was incredible as far as workouts go.  I have had more energy and have been able to step up the intensity level of my cardio part of the workout.  It is amazing how fast an hour on the treadmill really does go by.

This morning I had my weekly weigh-in for this week and I was surprised.

Last week:  390

This week: 380

Another 10 pound loss!  I couldn’t believe it.  I’m pretty pumped.  I know this won’t keep going – but I am praying for at least 6-8 weeks of 10 pound losses in a row.  That would be amazing.  But I will embrace the low weeks as they come along as well.

40 days of love: day 1

I got the book ‘Love Dare’ for Christmas.  My original thought was to do a spoof of the 40 Days of Love and chronicle how I am taking 40 days to love myself better.  If we are truthful we all have a hard time loving ourselves.  So last night I read the first day in the book and thought,

“You know…why don’t I do this for people I know.”

So that’s what I am going to do.  Instead of chronicling a funny sppof (I still think it would really funny) I am going to chronicle how I display the 40 Days of Love to those that I encounter.

Day 1: Say nothing negative to those that you come into contact with.

If you are like me sarcasm might feel like a spiritual gift.  In fact I have often said that it is my biggest strength.  If you know me personally you know that I LOVE to make people laugh.  It’s just who I am.  I love cracking joking and being the smart alec in the room.  So today I can say nothing ‘smart’ or sarcastic to those I come into contact with.

This one is going to be hard for me.

a new year is coming…

I can’t believe it has been a week since the last time I posted anything.  As I look back over 2008 there have been a few major changes in my life.  All of them good.  The 2 that have impacted my life the most are;

  • The Journey to 100 – I didn’t finish my journey.  In fact I only got halfway there.  But still dropping 50 pounds had a huge impact on me.  I became more disciplined in a lot of things and I learned a lot about myself as well.
  • The Resignation – Stepping down from the Youth Pastor at New Hope and becoming the Youth Pastor/ Worship Leader here at Bethel Baptist was a God thing.  Relocating is never easy and to leave a church I had been at for 6 years wasn’t easy either.  All in all it was a great move.

I am looking forward to 2009.  I’m not making any resolutions – instead I am creating goals to be shared with my team and with some guys I meet with for accountability.  One thing I will step back into is journey to 100.  I am looking forward to adapting a new mindset as to how I live, am active and stay healthy.  We are also continuing to dream and pray about future plans for our student ministry and possibly a youth center.  If it’s God’s will it will happen.

2009 should be a pretty exciting year.

how much do YOU hate them?

I saw this over on Ragamuffin Soul.  Penn has some great insights.  How much do YOU hate those around you?

I had an interesting conversation about the difference of the Judgement Seat of Christ and the Great White Throne Judgement today…so I decided to do this poll.  Please vote.  If you feel so inclinced leave your reason for how you voted in the comment section.

i am second

I Am Second.  Not first – second.  You’re second too….

I just came across the I Am Second website.  It’s pretty sweet.  It’s full of testimonies from shigh profile people.  I think my favorite one is Brian ‘Head’ Welch.  All of them are worth watching.   It’s all flash based so you can’t really download them and use them without having access to the internet.  But man they are powerful.

Dear Head Cold

Dear Head Cold,

I was pleasantly surprised last Wednesday when I woke up and you were dwelling within my body.  You see I felt fine Tuesday without a trace of you – at all.  I was shocked when I woke up Wednesday and felt you dancing on the back of my throat.  You even made me cough up what I am quite sure was something the human body can’t produce on it’s own.  I swear it was even moving.

Dear Head Cold you see I don’t have time to be sick becuase I work with people.  I am expected to be at things this week – but now with you invading my body I cannot do some things I was looking forward to doing.

Dear Head Cold I think you are affecting the way I think.  You see I now see it as my civil duty to “infect” as many people as I can now that you are living inside of me.  To date I think I can count 5 people I have been in contact with that now share the same cold.  It is the season for sharing right?

Dear Head Cold I need you to leave so I can be productive.  I am not taking things that will kill you.  Have a nice life.

why i don’t have a christmas tree

I have been getting a lot of people lately asking me if I am putting up a Christmas tree.  My answer is simple. “No I’m not.”  It’s not that I hate Christmas becuase I don’t.  I love Christmas.  I love the weather.  I love the music.  I love the festivities and the parties.  I love getting together with friends.  I love the fact that the reason why we have Christmas is becuase makind was given the greatest gift ever 2000 years ago.  I LOVE Christmas.  So why now Christmas tree?  Becuase I am a bachelor and I am going on 12 years without a tree.  Why should I break this tradition?  I see it as a great feat in some ways.  A friend of mine gave me this quote today.

Smart people are unlikely to come up with ideas such as killing a perfectly good tree, covering it with crap, and keeping it in the living room for a month. – Scott Adams

I have no idea who Scott Adams is but he sounds like a level headed guy in my book.  Also if I were to get a tree then I would have to spen $100-$200 on decorations for it.  Find time to put it up.  THEN take it down at the end of December.  No thanks.

Now I would have a Christmas tree if I could do this.  Having a tree like this would be awesome.  Meet the Bachelor Christmas tree.
