I am excited about a few things:

  • we have had one or 2 students complete B90X with me and we are starting it again
  • I am going to start journaling as I spend time reading through Proverbs for my personal study time
  • things are going really well both physically and ministry wise right now

I started this new series after completing my goal of losing 100lbs.  So why a new series and not just continuing the journey to 100?  Since I have completed my goal I thought it was time for something new and something that focuses on the spiritual and not just the physical…bot or hugely important and spiritual health is way more important than physical health.  Don’t get me wrong physical health is very important but spiritual health trumps it.  It would be easy to think I’m all about fun and games and physical accomplishments but I’m really not.  While I like to have fun and love accomplishing things physically I enjoy a good theological conversation far more.  I always have hands down.  So I’m hoping to bring that to the mix this time around as well.

I worked out hard this week but I don’t think I ate enough and so it’s reflected in my weigh-in this week.  Overall though things are going really well working out.  I crave going to the gym now.  I used to look forward to going to the gym and it’s now one of my favorite things to do again – which I am excited about!

4 pounds is 4 pounds and I’m proud of it.  Down one more notch on the belt again.  It has definitely been a confidence booster.  I’m looking forward to summer – I’m hoping to be lighter than I was as a sophomore in college.  I’m glad to be able to be a better steward of the temple God has given me – spiritually and physically.

exciting times…

I have had a bad week.  I got really sick after this last weekend.  I am not sure if it was the flu or what.  I never got sick to my stomach but I did sleep for 18 hours the other day.  On top of that i had to take my car in becuase the drivers door wouldn’t open or unlock.  So for the last week I have been climbing through the passenger side door and across the console to get in.  My week has stunk.

However – I am so impressed with our students right now.  My week just got a LOT better.   Our  CHAOS (high school) students are starting to be on a Holy terror with sharing the Gospel with their friends right now.   Who doesn’t want their students out sharing the Gospel with their friends?  This is so cool to see after coming back from Dare 2 Share this past weekend.  It’s encouraging to see students take their faith seriously and start to pursue their friends with the Gospel.

So far some really cool things have been happening and this is just the beginning I think.  So far;

  • a student lead a guy to Christ @ Wal-Mart
  • a student has given 2 Bibles away to her friends
  • one of our guys got into a conversation with one of his friends on his bus ride home – another student over heard that conversation
  • one of our students is pursuing some friends through Facebook

These are small steps but HUGE steps at the same time. We are starting to talk about a once a month celebration of Gospel stories and combine the middle school and high school.   We want to celebrate both in success and in rejection so that we can hold those conversations up in prayer and encourage each other in our journey of sharing our faith.   How amazing would it be to have 1 night a month to worship together, encourage each other, pray for each other and challenge each other to continue to share our stories of God’s REDEEMING love with others?

God is pretty awesome.

I’m entered – how about you?

Fire Escape is our middle school ministry.  Last night we had a great night.  I have decided to ramp games back up and it really helped a lot.  We played ‘Dive Bombers’ and of course dodgeball.   Dive Bombers didn’t work so well.  Basically you divide the students into 2 teams.  You then have them sit against each side wall of the gym.  The last perosn in the line puts a styrofoam cu on their head.  The goal is for each team to knock the other teams cup off – first team to 5 points wins.  It pretty much bombed.

Then we played a “quick” game a of dodgeball with some minor adjustments:

  • there were no jail breaks (no one could get back in the game at any point)
  • once half of each team was out we moved the back boundary line up to the free throw lines on each side
  • if the ball bounced off the wall or ceiling and hit you BEFORE it hit the floor you were out

The kids loved it.  The new “twists” added some new elements and the game went fairly quick.

Last night as a whole was a success really.  We had more excitement and energy I think.  I talked to the kids about truly worshipping God and letting go when we sing and really sing.  With a little coaching they finally got caught up in worshipping through song and really worshipped last night.  It was pretty incredible actually.  They were belting the songs out like they meant it.  It was great.

The lesson was pretty good too.  Geoff does a good job with the lessons.  I felt like the kids were a little more engaged last night which was a good thing.  That’s one thing we are really working on the second half of the year – engaging the students and challenging them to walk in their faith.

getting ready for transformation

On January 25 we will kick off the Gospel Journey Maui from Dare 2 Share.  We are really looking forward to the Journey this time around.  This is going to be a great opportunity for our high school students to invite their friends to enter into discussion on faith and life.   The longer  I am in ministry the more I realize that people want to discussion faith issues.  Each one of us were born with a condition where we are hard-wired to think of eternity.  Ecclesiastes 3:11 says this,

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”    – Ecclesiastes 3:11

This has a huge implication for all of us.  We are hard-wired to think of eternity and the impact that has on us.  I think when we come to grasp (or realize this) it helps to take some pressure off of us in sharing the Gospel.  According to Ecclesiastes 3:11 everyone is thinking about things of eternal value.  This should help us in talking to people about things of eternal value then.

I am looking forward the the Gospel Journey Maui. I think it’s going to be a great 8-9 weeks.

a new year is coming…

I can’t believe it has been a week since the last time I posted anything.  As I look back over 2008 there have been a few major changes in my life.  All of them good.  The 2 that have impacted my life the most are;

  • The Journey to 100 – I didn’t finish my journey.  In fact I only got halfway there.  But still dropping 50 pounds had a huge impact on me.  I became more disciplined in a lot of things and I learned a lot about myself as well.
  • The Resignation – Stepping down from the Youth Pastor at New Hope and becoming the Youth Pastor/ Worship Leader here at Bethel Baptist was a God thing.  Relocating is never easy and to leave a church I had been at for 6 years wasn’t easy either.  All in all it was a great move.

I am looking forward to 2009.  I’m not making any resolutions – instead I am creating goals to be shared with my team and with some guys I meet with for accountability.  One thing I will step back into is journey to 100.  I am looking forward to adapting a new mindset as to how I live, am active and stay healthy.  We are also continuing to dream and pray about future plans for our student ministry and possibly a youth center.  If it’s God’s will it will happen.

2009 should be a pretty exciting year.

I saw this over on Ragamuffin Soul.  Penn has some great insights.  How much do YOU hate those around you?

I had an interesting conversation about the difference of the Judgement Seat of Christ and the Great White Throne Judgement today…so I decided to do this poll.  Please vote.  If you feel so inclinced leave your reason for how you voted in the comment section.

i am second

I Am Second.  Not first – second.  You’re second too….

I just came across the I Am Second website.  It’s pretty sweet.  It’s full of testimonies from shigh profile people.  I think my favorite one is Brian ‘Head’ Welch.  All of them are worth watching.   It’s all flash based so you can’t really download them and use them without having access to the internet.  But man they are powerful.
