Middle School can be a really hard time of life.  Your friends are changing.  Your interests are changing.  Your going through some personal changes and not to mention some physical changes that can be downright awkward to!  It is a tough time to go through.  I often wonder if Jesus went through puberty.  If he had a crush on a girl.  What did his voice sound like as it was changing?  Did he have zits and pimples too?  The Bible doesn’t tell us a lot about Jesus when he was growing up.  We do know that he was born as an infant so it is safe to say he went through everything you’re going through as a 7th or 8th grader right now!  In fact the Bible tells us that!  In Hebrews 4:14-15  this is what it says, “Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.”

We have someone who has walked in our footsteps before – Jesus!  The thing is he never sinned.  I love how the Message puts Hebrews 4:14-15.  I really like this part, “We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.”  Do you know what this means?  It means that Jesus is on our side.  A ‘high priest’ is like an attorney – he fights for us.  He’s experienced everything we have “but without the sin.”  So now we can approach him and ask for help becuase he understands the zits, pimples the odd things going on with our bodies and the pressure of being a teenager.  He gets it so we can turn to him in our time of need!  Next time you are in a tough spot turn to Jesus and simply ask, “Jesus I need some help with _______” and he will help you out.
